Will I receive updates about my pup during their stay?

Of course! You'll receive daily updates via text of your pup's training progress, and you'll get several photos of what else they are up to while away at training camp.

Be warned, though... even if you decide to go on vacation or take a trip while your pup is staying with us, you might get jealous of how much fun they are having while at camp! Doggy brain-teasers, enrichment puzzles, playtime with other pups, special treats and food puzzle toys... the fun never ends!

Does sending my dog away for Boarding and Training mean that I don't have to work with my dog at all?

Ever learn a foreign language but forget most of it once you stop practicing? Your dog's training is similar. While your dog will learn a tremendous amount while staying with us for Boarding and Training, you'll still need to maintain your dog's new skills by putting them to good use. But don't worry, this is fun and easy to do, and we'll be there to guide you every step of the way!

Expect to spend about 5 minutes a day practicing your dog's new skills once they are home with you, and after a week or two, feel free to practice every other day or only a couple of times per week. The tricky part -learning new skills- takes place during Boarding and Training, so practicing training with your dog will be as fun and easy as asking for a behavior, and then rewarding with a treat!

Is my dog going to have a good time during Boarding & Training? What if my dog has an anxious or nervous temperament?

Dogs who come through our Board & Train program generally adjust very quickly and ADORE all of the fun training and playtime! That being said, sometimes the first day or two can be a big change from their normal routine. We do everything we can to help them adjust, but being away from home, no matter how nice the digs are, can be stressful. Remember how tough that first day of summer camp was when you were a kid, but by the end of the trip, you didn't want to leave? It may take a day or two for your dog to settle in, but we take great care to make sure that they adjust quickly to the fun and thoughtful routine of our Boarding & Training program.

Daycares and boarding facilities often refrain from telling their owners just how stressful boarding can be for a dog, while simultaneously rarely doing anything to lower that stress! That is NOT how we do things at ECDT. If your dog is struggling to adjust, we will let you know about it, consult with you on how to lower their stress, and also share with you our plan for how to best help your pup settle in. You can trust that if we tell you your pup is having a good time, they are.

We also take numerous measures to ensure that your dog is comfortable, such as:

  • Constant monitoring of stress levels & emotional state by a trained professional

  • Calming pheromone diffusers in all sleep areas

  • Plenty of one-on-one attention, & hands-on supervision by a trained professional at all times when not in sleeping area

  • Use of Thundershirts and calming vests (if needed)

  • Relaxing sound machines

  • Clean and comfy bedding in all sleeping areas, with stuffed toys from home (if no chewing hazard is present)

  • Fun & gentle introduction to the crate

  • Access to safe and calming enrichment activities when crated

& much more!

If your dog is severely anxious or has any tendencies towards separation anxiety or distress, Boarding & Training may not be a good fit for them. If you're unsure of how your dog will adjust to being boarded, we can always do a trial day or set up some daycare days to see how things go. Please reach out to us via the form at the bottom of the page with any questions or to set something up.

Can you accommodate specific dietary or medical needs for my dog during their stay?

Owners must provide us with their dog's daily food (and please try to avoid any major dietary changes immediately prior to your pup's stay), but we are happy to accommodate however we can in regard to treats and enrichment items. Just let us know if your pup has any allergies- food or otherwise- during intake.

Regarding special medical needs, we will treat your dog with the same love and attention that we give our own dogs. Whether that means applying ointments or creams, ensuring pills and supplements are taken, or addressing any other special needs that your pup may have, we are happy to do whatever we can to ensure that your dog stays as healthy as can be!

Please note that dogs must be fully vaccinated, free of any contagious diseases or illnesses, and generally healthy in order to be eligible for boarding.

Where will my dog stay while attending Boarding & Training?

The Enchanted Companions Dog Training Facility is located on Rin Rogers' home property, and while your dog will spend the majority of their time playing and training in the 3.7 acre dog area, for sleep and rest your dog will be crated in a luxurious doggy tiny-house, not in-home. We've tried lots of different set-ups over the years and carefully configured our program to be as low-stress as possible, and you can read more about our reasoning below:

While your dog will be closely monitored at all times, our trainers do need to occasionally step away to cook, eat, shower, and work with other dogs. Keeping pups in-home leads to more stress for the dogs, as they can't be permitted to have free-roam of the house before they are fully trained, seeing as even 20 seconds of being unsupervised is enough time for a puppy to get into trouble and hurt themselves. Even if dogs are in a safe area within the home, hearing the "treat lady" (trainer Rin) cook dinner in the kitchen or tidy up in the room next door can lead to a serious case of FOMO, and we don't want your pup spending their time worrying about missing out on fun when they could instead be resting peacefully after a long day of training and play.

In short: when dogs are crated in their own quiet area, they have a much easier time relaxing and snoozing as the typical household sounds aren't present to wake them or cause FOMO. Our top goal is always safety and comfort, so please trust us when we say that kenneling dogs for short periods of time in their own private space to rest and sleep is the best option, both for their physical and mental well-being.

Will my dog be crated or kenneled during their Board & Train?

While boarding with us for training, dogs and puppies stay in appropriately-sized crates to sleep, as we have found that this is better for them, both behaviorally and emotionally. If you're thinking "What?! You're going to put my dog in a CAGE?!", don't worry! We train your dog to associate the crate with positive things, so much so that clients report their dogs loving the crate so intensely that it becomes a favorite spot in the home, with their pup voluntarily choosing to spend time crated even if the crate door stays open!

Here are some of the other reasons why we like to crate dogs for sleep and rest:

-Some dogs struggle to settle around the house, and teaching them to enjoy being crated is a great way to encourage more calm behavior and self-regulation, especially when overly aroused.

-Dogs prefer to have their own space to rest and eat, and find comfort in knowing that they won't be bothered by others during these activities. This is especially true when other dogs are around. Teaching dogs that they have their own secure space to retreat to when they need a break is tremendously beneficial, and this transfers well to households with small children, too!

-Crates are the safest place for an untrained dog when they are not able to be supervised, and while they will almost always be out of the kennel and under the close supervision of our trained professionals, they will be crated in short bursts throughout the day so that we can work with other dogs. Puppies and untrained dogs also have an affinity for chewing on electrical cords (as well as other household hazards), so crating prevents many types of injuries and accidents.

-If you ever have a handyman come over who needs to work on your home, crating a dog who is already trained to enjoy the kennel is much less stressful to the dog than the alternative of being locked away in a room on the other side of the house!

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, whether you intend to crate train your dog or not, your dog will likely end up being crated at some point in their life due to unforeseen or unusual circumstances. If you take a road trip with your dog, the safest place for them is in a crash-tested crate in the back of your vehicle. Should your dog every need to stay at the veterinarian overnight, they'll be crated so that they can be monitored and safe in a sterile enviornment. Dogs are also often crated at the groomer's and daycares, and if you ever move or fly with your dog, you guessed it, they'll end up in a crate then too. If a dog has never been crated before, these experiences can be extremely unpleasant and lead to a host of behavioral issues.

At ECDT, we introduce the crate in a fun and positive way, ensuring that your dog thinks of the kennel as an enjoyable and safe place to rest. If you have any questions about our crate training process, please let us know! We are always happy to answer questions and provide more information.

FAQ image

Will my pup get dirty during their stay?

Yep, your pup will likely get dirty during their stay! Playing with other dogs and romping around our expansive property can get messy, especially on rainy days. Don't worry though, all dogs who participate in our Boarding & Training program receive a complementary bath on the day they go home.

We even take steps to ensure that your dog's bath is as calm and comfortable as possible- peanut butter licki mats, treats, non-skid surfaces, and many other considerations have been taken to ensure that your pup enjoys bath time.

FAQ image

How long is Boarding and Training? What is the cost?

Every dog is different, but a typical Board & Train lasts two weeks. The length of time that your pup stays with us for training also directly correlates with how involved in their training you'd like to be. If you're pretty hands-on and don't mind a bit more practice once your pup is back home, then a 1-week Board & Train may be all you need! If you'd rather we take care of all the legwork, you may consider a 3-week Board & Train instead*. Generally, though, most people find that 2 weeks of Boarding & Training is just right.

Whatever you decide is best for your pup, we'll figure out the length and inform you of the cost of your dog's Board and Train during our initial consultation.

Boarding & Training costs are as follows:

One week- $1575 ($225 per day)

Two weeks- $2800 ($200 per day)

*Please note that no matter how long your dog is away for Boarding & Training, you will have to practice their new skills with them so that your dog understands that they can listen and follow cues from you, too, not just from our trainers. The good news is, this is a really fun and easy process, and we'll help you every step of the way!

Do you offer any training guarantees? What is your cancellation or refund policy for the boarding and training program?

We do not offer training guarantees as we find it unethical to do so. This quote from an article by Certified Professional Dog Trainer and author, Jeff Stallings, explains it well-

"Dogs are animals, multifaceted beings whose rich emotional and mental lives are affected by as many variables as are humans.  While we’ve developed scientifically-sound methods for canine behavior modification, the only guarantees in life are death and taxes—and ostensibly diamonds and men’s suits."

That being said, Enchanted Companions Dog Training has a 100% success rate with our Board & Train program; we will always ensure that you are completely satisfied with our training. We are a small business with strong values; our main objective is to help the people and dogs of Rutherford County, and leaving clients unsatisfied with the training their dog receives isn't helpful to anyone. While we do not offer guarantees or cancellations/refunds once your dog has been through our training, we will always work with you to ensure that you are happy with the training services that we have provided.

Here are two articles from respected trainers that further explains why "training guarantees" are a red flag in the dog training industry-

Can I go out of town while my pup is with you?

Absolutely! In fact, most clients try to plan their dog's Board & Train stay to coincide with vacations or work trips. Take a vacation from the stresses of puppyhood or doggy misbehavior and return home to a well-mannered pup!

FAQ image

How far in advance do I need to book my dog's Boarding & Training stay?

For holidays and other busy times of the year, such as spring and fall break, it's a good idea to book as early as you can. Depending on the time of year, we sometimes schedule out up to a month in advance.

If you're planning on going out of town and would like to check the availability of specific dates, please reach out to us via text, call, or email as soon as possible, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

FAQ image

Do you offer just boarding, without any training?

Once your pup has completed a Board & Train with us, they are welcome to come and stay with us for boarding (without training) anytime, as long as we have availability. Our boarding rate is 65$ per day, and just like a Board & Train, you will receive lots of updates and photos so that you know what your dog is up to while they stay with us.

Choosing to board your dog with us rather than a traditional boarding facility is a great way to ensure that your dog maintains the good manners that they worked so hard for during training! While we won't do specific training sessions with your dog during a boarding stay, we'll be sure to reinforce good behavior and maintain all of the skills that they learned during training.

Training FAQ's

Can I customize the training program to focus on specific behaviors or commands?

Absolutely! While many other training programs are comprised of cut-and-paste training skills, the Enchanted Companions training philosophy supports a more custom & tailored approach. We want to teach your dog skills that will best suit your individual lifestyle.

During our Boarding & Training intake session, we'll establish what skills and behaviors are most important to you, and use that information to create a custom training plan that we'll implement with your pup during their stay with us.

What qualifications do your trainers have?

FAQ image

How often will my dog be trained during their stay? Will my dog receive individualized attention and training sessions?

Training happens all day long while your pup is staying with us for a Board & Train, but your pup will also receive several individual training sessions per day. Some dogs prefer longer concentrated training sessions 2-3 times per day, while others prefer to keep training sessions short and sweet, working in 5-minute bursts all day long. Worried about your dog's short attention span? Don't be! No matter what kind of learner your pup is, we work with them at their pace and ensure that they go home with lots of new skills and behaviors.

FAQ image

Do you offer any follow-up support or training resources after the Boarding & Training program?

Absolutely! You're welcome to reach out to us at anytime with questions that you may have. We will always be here to support you and your pup through whatever life throws at you.
